As many of you here, reading the reviews made me doubt about renting from SIXT, but I gave it a try. My advice to you is to: DO NOT BOOK THROUGH A THIRD PARTY WEBSITE, instead go to their main website or even in person. I did it that way, and everything was wonderful. I rented the car for 18 days for a road trip, as I went I needed to extend my road trip so that process of adding more days to the rental was super easy, I was able to do it myself. I got charged the right amount. The process was very smooth, DARNIE, at the Downtown location was amazing. If you have a question, ask her she’s very knowledgeable.

Upon pick up, things went smoothly and great, but I highly suggest taking your own photos. I had seen a review on here on how this rental place falsely blamed them for damages. I have never had a problem with car rentals so I ignored this review. Upon pick up I noticed damages to the SUV I was renting and reported them to the clerk woman working on 12/25/24. She claimed they had already reported damages with a video so no further paper work was needed. I am use to receiving the paper where you circle or report damages so I decided to take it upon myself to take photos anyway of damages. I just returned the car back 01/02/25 and received an email that claimed new damages were found on the SUV. After reviewing the photos they sent, they are the same damages I took photos of. So please people take your own videos and photos before they falsely accuse you of making damages to a car rental. Now we are dealing with an insurance claim.

Jasmine at check-in was super friendly and helpful. Drop off was a bit more of an adventure, the manager noticed some damage to one of the rims that wasn’t noted before. I had a video showing the damage was there when I picked the car up, but company policy is that the manager can’t just clear up the mixup on the spot because “it’s a different department”. Luckily the manager was great, she took the time to call whatever the other department it is and cleared it up without them hassling me about it. In other words, staff at this location - fantastic! SIXT as a company…meh.

I just had the most horrible attempt at picking up the BMW X5 I had reserved several weeks ago (on 10/24) for pick-up today. Evidently, management of the Houston Downtown location had already decided yesterday that they would try to put me in a X4 rather than the larger X5 I reserved. Instead of informing me about this change in advance using the email or phone on file, they made me come up to the rental office and then proceeded to make it appear as if the X4 was no downgrade. When I refused the X4 I was initially offered the X7 they had on the lot as a free upgrade. Then some other Sixt staffer came along and told that we could not have the X7 unless we paid $1,400 extra. Of course, I refused.
So, instead of providing the X5 we reserved weeks ago, or giving a complimentary upgrade to the X7 they had on the lot, they continued to push the X4. Furthermore, despite me declining optional insurance coverage, they tried time and again to add that to the rental agreement.
It is clear that we left that rental agency without a car. I will obviously provide negative reviews and a complaint with the BBB - assuming they even care about their reputation.
The whole experience is one of a bait-and-switch scam!

BTW I am a Platinum card holder, not that anyone cares.

In one word: sleazy.
1. Even though, when I booked the rental, I specified that I didn’t need extra insurance, it was added to the total at pickup.
I requested to have it removed and was told the price would be no different if I did, which is utter nonsense. I insisted, they removed the insurance and, lo and behold, the price dropped by half!
2. I was told they would upgrade me to a better vehicle. No mention of extra charges. I asked and was told, yes, it’s a higher class car, so it will cost more! I booked the car I booked because that was my budget but they underhandedly tried to get me to pay up.
3. 20 minutes after arriving to pick up a vehicle I had reserved online, I finally get handed the keys, and the trunk won’t open.
15 minutes later, we finally get another car and managed to get out of there.

Never again! Avoid Sixt at all costs!

Terrible!!!! I returned the car at 11:13 on Tuesday, they have not checked the car in its Friday. I am still waiting on my deposit and they are trying to bill my card. I called customer service. They have been telling me the same thing for two days now that they will contact the branch and the branch will call me. No one has called!! It’s simple check in the car. This is sketchy and very unprofessional. I will never rent from here again. Please go to SIXT at the Royal Sonesta at the galleria, They are very professional and helpful there. They helped me the whole time more than the actual location I picked up from.

Terrible experience and I warn everyone that wants to rent a car go somewhere else! I rented a vehicle back in July. They do have nice clean vehicles I’ll give them that. Customer service and trying to get anyone to help solve your issue is where they fail miserably.

When I picked up my vehicle they said it would be a $200 deposit. Instead they held $275. No one could explain to me as to why they were holding an extra $75. Not a huge deal I was traveling on a tight budget, so when you look at your account and realize $75 is gone it’s a problem. My rental was for a week and during that time customer service could not get back to me why they held an extra $75. They didn’t seem to care. No problem I was going to let that go.

When I returned the vehicle everything seemed to go smoothly and no issues. It wasn’t until I was boarding my flight that I received an email from their claims department telling me I caused damage to their vehicle and they need to investigate. Their employee took a photo of previous damage said I caused it and then forged my signature as if I was acknowledging the claim! Thankfully I took pictures and a video before leaving the lot so I could dispute this accusation.

When a manager from the branch finally reached out to me after a week. She claimed it was a newer employee and she didn’t know what she was doing. For the inconvenience that was caused she said I would be getting a voucher for the full amount of my rental to use in the future. I was satisfied with that and thought I could give them another try.

Now that the holidays are coming up I’m returning to Houston and wanted to use the voucher. Turns out she only issued it for 1/3 of the amount she had promised. I call customer service and emailed them to help me with this issue. All they did was confirm the amount of the voucher and nothing else. I asked for them to have the GM call me (they don’t have a direct number to their branches) over two weeks ago and haven’t heard anything. No phone call no email responses nothing! They could care less about customer service! They think they can run a business by having nice vehicles for a cheap price and then try to scam their customers out of more money for damages they didn’t cause! Maybe after this post they will actually care to reach out and rectify the situation.

Last contact with them was an automated response asking for more time to find a solution. That date was 11/24/24.

Pick up was ok, they as usual didn’t have the car I reserved and they tried to upgrade me for a fee. Note, always take video and pictures of the vehicle at location before leaving. I’m glad I did, I returned the car after hours. Later that evening, I received an email from claims. Lol.. stating I had damaged the vehicle. Now the same person I have in my video tells me about the damage at pick up. Made the claim, as if I did it.
